Sri Ramanavami celebrates the birth of Lord Rama — the seventh avatar of Vishnu, the embodiment of dharma, virtue, and ideal kingship as described in the Ramayana.
Significance
Lord Rama was born on the ninth day (Navami) of Chaitra month in the Shukla Paksha. He is revered as Maryada Purushottama — the supreme ideal of righteous conduct. His life teaches the values of truth, duty, love, and sacrifice.
Traditions & Practices
Recitation of Ramayana — especially Sundara Kanda and Bala Kanda
Sita-Rama Kalyanam — ceremonial re-enactment of the divine wedding
Fasting and prayers from dawn
Decorating temples with flowers and lights
Community gatherings and bhajans (devotional singing)
Distributing panakam (jaggery drink) and neer mor (buttermilk)
Processions with decorated chariots of Lord Rama
