Significance
Onam celebrates Thiruvonam — the day King Mahabali visits his people. Lord Vishnu, as Vamana avatar, pushed Mahabali to the netherworld — but granted him the boon to visit his beloved people once a year. The festival is a reminder that good governance, compassion and equality are timeless values.
