Ear Piercing Ceremony
⏰ 6th month to 5th year
Significance
Karnavedha is the ear-piercing ceremony. Ears are considered the organs for receiving divine knowledge. Piercing the ear lobes is described in Vedic texts as a practice that activates specific Marma (vital energy) points, enhancing hearing, brain function, and the ability to receive sacred knowledge.
What Happens During the Ceremony?
The Purohit performs a short puja. A qualified goldsmith pierces the earlobes using a golden needle (or a gold wire). The right ear is pierced first for boys; the left ear first for girls. Gold studs are inserted. Mantras for health and wisdom are chanted.
